There are anniversaries that belong to a single nation, and there are anniversaries that belong to the history of humanity. The 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America is undoubtedly one of those milestones that transcends national borders.
It is impossible to deny that over the past two and a half centuries, American history has shaped the international order, innovation, the development of democracy, the global economy, science, and technology to an extent achieved by very few nations.
The 250th anniversary of American independence should also be viewed as an opportunity to reflect on the kind of relationships we wish to build in the decades ahead.
Today, young people have the opportunity to discover America through its universities, scientific research, innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, education, and everyday interaction with their peers in Serbia and around the world. It is within these connections that lasting partnerships are forged.
Thousands of young people from Serbia work for, or collaborate with, American companies. Serbia's IT sector enjoys substantial exchange with the U.S. market, representing only a fraction of the potential for bilateral cooperation. Scientists, researchers, and students participate in joint projects and initiatives, while the Serbian diaspora in the United States serves as a natural bridge between our two countries.
For this very reason, we believe that the greatest potential of Serbian-American relations today lies not exclusively in diplomacy. Rather, it lies in the young people of Serbia, who undoubtedly possess the ability to draw inspiration from the very best of the American legacy and, in doing so, strengthen not only Serbian-American relations, but also their local communities and the future prosperity of Serbian society as a whole.
